Volunteers in Policing

Volunteers in Policing Program
The City of Morgan Hill is seeking ways to enhance the effectiveness of the Police Department through the Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program. The VIP program is a way to maximize the Police Department's services without incurring a substantial financial burden.

The Morgan Hill Police Department's VIP program began in the fall of 2011 and is currently comprised of 24 residents who completed the MHPD Citizen's Academy. The VIPs are utilized to enhance crime prevention and community services. VIPs undertake projects which could not have otherwise been considered due to lack of PD resources. VIPs perform a large range of functions including:
  • Live Scan background checks
  • Community patrol
  • Traffic patrol
  • Clerical and administrative work
  • Special events
  • PD front desk support
  • Many other valuable contributions throughout the department

The VIPs function as an auxiliary unit of the Police Department, with no powers of arrest beyond those of any private citizen. They serve as extra eyes, ears, and helping hands. The VIP program is overseen by a Police Corporal and a lead VIP member. For more information, please contact OES Coordinator Jennifer Ponce or VIP Lead, Marc Darnell.
