The proposed South County Power Connect project is intended to increase the capacity of southern Santa Clara County’s electric system and help ensure future electric reliability in South County (Morgan Hill). The proposed project includes upgrades to key transmission lines in the area, the construction of a new substation and two new transmission lines to connect a new transmission source to the local electric grid. The result of these upgrades will increase the redundancy of the transmission system serving the area and reduce the risk of local power outages due to transmission line disruptions.
Proposed project includes:
Construct a new substation
Build a new 115 kV transmission line that connects the new substation to the existing 115 kV transmission system that serves the region
Build a new 230 kV transmission line that connects one of the existing Metcalf-Moss Landing 230 kV lines into the new substation
Upgrade portions of the existing 115 kV transmission lines that serve the region
The map below, details the existing power transmission lines as well as proposed sites for a new substation. This map and additional information can be found on a dedicated Pacific Gas and Electric web page.
PG&E has put together and interactive map that allows you to look up your property proximate to the project.
