Marby Lee was elected to her first term on the City Council in November, 2006. She is 42 years old and has lived in Morgan Hill since 1996. She married Bryson Lee in 1997. They have a daughter, Meghan.
Marby grew up in Southern California, and graduated from Culver City High School in 1984. She was active in Student Council and, outside of school, in BBYO (B’nai B’rith Youth Organization) where she held several offices and chairmanships during her membership.
After graduating from high school, Marby attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where she received her Bachelor of Science in Graphic Communications. She was active in her major, working at the student-run print shop, a disc jockey at KCPR, the campus radio station, and also spent one season as Cal Poly’s mascot, the Mustang. She also received a certificate in Visual Communication from UC Santa Cruz Extension in 2005.
Marby moved to the Bay Area after graduating from college, working in the commercial printing industry at several family-owed printing companies, for Household International (now HSBC) as a print buyer, and as a Creative Program Manager for Cisco Systems. After leaving Cisco, Marby took her love of visual arts and jewelry making and started her own company, Carta Gravura. She has displayed her jewelry at Mushroom Mardi Gras, Taste of Morgan Hill, and the Morgan Hill Downtown Association Street Fair. She also is a stylist for Stella & Dot, a home party company that emphasizes strong, entrepreneurial women..
Marby got involved politically in 2004, advocating keeping the proposed new library at the Civic Center location. She decided to run for City Council in 2006 wanting to make sure government was responsive to those who elected them. In her tenure, Marby has taken a common sense attitude towards issues, with an emphasis on fiscal responsibility. She is chairman of the Financial Policy Committee and a member of the Community and Economic Development Committee. She is the Council Representative to the Valley Transportation Authority Policy Advisory Committee, the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Forum, the County Expressway Study Policy Advisory Board, and Morgan Hill Sister City Committee.
