Police Department Overview

The mission of the Morgan Hill Police Department is to provide quality Police Service through community involvement and innovative use of resources.

In recent years the department has enjoyed the reputation of being a problem –solving organization that employs a pro-active community oriented policing philosophy. Department staff members have concentrated their efforts on maintaining a low violent- crime rate in the community through the development of school resource programs, gang and drug suppression and community partnership development.

The police department currently also operates the City’s Animal Control Program and coordinates the City Office of Emergency Services. The Office of Emergency Services Provides pre and post disaster mitigation services to the community.

The department is currently approved for thirty-five sworn officer position, six paid reserve police officer positions, and 25 non-sworn support positions. Staff are assigned to one of three divisions; Filed Operations, Special Operations, or Support Services. The department also boasts an award- winning Police Explorer Program for the youth of Morgan Hill. In addition to paid positions, various opportunities exist for community volunteers and student interns to play an active role in supporting public safety efforts.
